Lakeside High School, located in Atlanta, Georgia, is part of the DeKalb County School System. Lakeside students have excelled in both academics and athletics since the school opened in 1965. Many awards and honors have reflected the outstanding dedication to academic and athletic excellence by the students, parents, coaches, and staff. In 1985, Lakeside was honored as a State and National School of Excellence, which is an honor that reflects the positive relationship between the school and community. In Newsweek magazine’s 2008 list of the best public high schools in the nation, Lakeside was ranked 2nd in Georgia. In 2012, the Washington Post High School Challenge List rated Lakeside 289th nationally, 13th in Georgia, and 1st in DeKalb County.
In the 2020-2021 academic year, the Lakeside Vikings will begin play in Georgia High School Association Class 6A in Region 4. Also competing in Region 4 are Hughes, Lovejoy, Morrow, North Atlanta, Tucker, and Westlake.
